Independent Project One: Lo Fi (Holga Photography)

Photo III-Independent Project After Questions:
1. For this project I chose to do lo fi photography. I chose it because I like how it has a shadow boarder around the image. Lo fi is where an image has a low quality look. Ive done styles of photography that is similar to lo fi. The image turns out dark, which I like. I like dark images.
2. I took my camera and turned on an effect. The effect is called toy effect. It gives the same black boarder around the images. Then I went to photoshop and added a noise filter which gives the image a grainy effect. I went to an ally and to Tingley Beach for my images. I did close ups and other angles.
3. The editing I did for my Images were messing with the brightness, levels, curves, saturation and noise of the images. The levels and curves gave the images a darker filter, the noise gave that low quality look and for saturation, I just like to mess with saturation.
4. For this project I learned how to do lo fi photography but in a simpler way. I just used a filter/effect on my camera. I also learned how to make a photo look even more like lo fi. I used different manipulation techniques in photoshop (i.e noise, curves, levels, saturation, etc).
5. I didn't find anything difficult with creating these images. Everything was self explanatory and simple.
6. I like how they came out. Maybe I could of done better. Mainly the ones I like are the ones in the ally way. Some from tingley Beach were good but not fantastic. But I may be criticizing my work too harshly. I could of gone different places for this project.
7. For my next project Im thinking about when I go on my next trip with my class (eco-biology), I will go around the Hubbell House and capture picture. Mainly close ups and the nature part of their land. The Hubbell House has a lot of culture to it. It has many nature sceneries.
Independent Project #2: The Gutierrez Hubbell House

Photo III-Independent Project After Questions:
1. This project I went to the Gutierrez Hubbell House. Its a historical site and it ran in the Gutierrez family. Bernalillo county bought it in 2000 so they can keep it. I went around their farm mainly and got closeups of plants and bugs. I did however get pictures of the house and inside the house.
2. I just got real close to the bugs and i hoped I didn't get stung. I did get decent photos of them. I walked around and observed the view and decided to take photos. There wasn't anything major that I could do because it was just me walking around and sometimes crouching to get photos. I just had to observe and take multiple pictures until I got a good one.
3. I just messed with the brightness and saturation of the images. I prefer darker images but at times I will increase the brightness and I like having a lot of saturation to enhance the image.
4. I learned that I can get close ups of bees and other bugs if I really tried. I also learned that there is a lot of beauty of in nature when I get closeups of plants or bugs.
5. I don't think anything was difficult about this project. They were simple and all I had to get are closeups of certain things.
6. I actually liked the images except the ones inside the house. I wanted to get photos of the inside so it wasn't just based on their farm they had. I really liked the ones of the farm. Especially the bees. There is one photo that has become my favorite photo so far. Its of a bee.
7. I was thinking of sticking outside for the next project. Since the leaves are changing and its a really nice time of year I thought it would be perfect to go down to the Bosque and get pictures there. Maybe I will add in people for the images or just leave it. Or I was thinking about advanced lighting. I learned that I like being outside for photography.
Independent Project #3: Bosque/Rio Grande

1. I chose to go to the Rio Grande/Bosque for this project. I went by Tingley Beach for this project and I saw new scenery. I chose this project because I like being outside. Plus the colors of the leaves were changing so it seemed like a great idea to shoot this project.
2. I walked a lot to get these images. I just walked through the trees and along the Rio Grande. I did step in a lot of mud and at some point I got on the ground. There wasn't too much that I did.
3. I really like to mess with the saturation and hue. I also enhanced the images and messed with the curves, shadows and levels. I edited the images this way because they looked dull and these edits made them not look dull.
4. I didn't learn anything about this project. Its just the usual walking around and observing the scenery and taking images until I am satisfied with them.
5. I didn't find anything difficult about these images. They were easy and simple.
6. I think they could of been better. Maybe I could of went to a different part of the Rio Grande and got a long shot of the whole thing. Or I could of went to a bridge and shot from there. Although there after some shots that I liked.
7. For my next project I am thinking about going to Socorro. I will be going to New Mexico Tech for a tour. I thought I'd get images while I'm out there and use those as a project. Socorro is about an hour and a half away from Albuquerque. There are a lot of mountains surrounding Socorro and Socorro is rather small. There is an M that always painted on a mountain on the students hike up there every year to repaint it. You may think the M stands for Mountains but it stands for Miners.
Independent Project Four: New Mexico Tech (Socorro)

1. For this project I chose to go to Socorro. I went for a tour at New Mexico Tech. I thought since I'm out there Id get pictures and use them for a project.
2. I walked around the campus and drove around Socorro. There are a lot of mountains surrounding Socorro so thats pretty much what I got.
3. I just messed with the brightness and the saturation. Those images needed it because they were dull. I also turned one image black and white just to see how it looked and I liked it.
4. I learned that there are a lot of sites to take pictures of and they end up being beautiful.
5. The only thing I found difficult was driving to Socorro. I kept falling asleep while driving.
6. I think they could of been better and I could of taken my time but I was trying to get the people I took with me home. I plan on going back but by myself so I don't get rushed.
7. For my next project I plan on doing advanced lighting. I will use different colored lights and different light sources. Ive done this project before (last year) and I really liked it. The photos will be different and there won't be duplicates.
Independent Project Five: Advanced Lighting

After Advance lighting Shooting Journal/Reflection :
1. You draw with light by slowing the shutter speed down and taking a light source and drawing an image. You slow the shutter speed down so it gives you time to draw an image.
2. The movement of light shows a trail of light. As the light moves the camera captures that movement. If you draw a heart, a heart will appear.
3. The exposure triangle is 'a common way of associating the three variables that determine the exposure of a photograph: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. One must balance all three of these to achieve a desired result, an adjustment of one requiring adjustments of at least one of the others".
4. We use the exposure triangle by inserting those three variables while taking a picture. For example If you slow the shutter speed down it will capture the movements of the subject it will show the trails of the movement.
5. Using color adds a dramatic feeling because the shadows can fade from the darkest they can e and to the lightest they can be.
6. Color can be used to show emotions.
7. I didn't find anything to be hard about this project. It was all easy.
8. The strand lights weren't hard. They were easy.
9. You can use a CD reflection outside because The sunlight will reflect off the CD and on to the subject.
Independent Project Six: Black and white Photography (Portraits)

1. I chose black and white photography and focused on portraits because Ive been getting into portraits. Although Im still not comfortable doing portraits of people and Im trying. Then I thought I could do black and white photography and use colored portraits for another time.
2. I just went to my boyfriends house to capture the photos of them and I tried to control my cat(s) to get a good photo of them. The cats kept moving so it took a while. My boyfriend didn't want to take pictures because he wasn't "ready". His sister and uncle didn't have any problem.
3. All I did was turn the image black and white and messed with the brightness and contrast. They needed to be black and white because thats what my project was focusing on. Then I messed with the contrast and brightness because I like darker images (I brought the brightness down) and I like more contrast to images. I always mess woth brightness and contrast no matter what.
4. I didn't learn anything about this type of photography because I already knew what I was doing.
5. I didn't find anything difficult about this project because it was easy and self explanatory.
6. I actually like how they came out considering I don't like doing portraits of people. The brightness came out good on majority of them. I like how the black and white filter compliments the skin/fur of the subjects.
7. For my next project I think I want to do more portraits but I might take a break from them since Ive done them for the last two projects. I will have to think about it for a while.
Independent Project Seven: Deconstructive Photography

1. I chose to do deconstructed landscapes. I chose it because it looked like a neat idea and it was different from what Ive been doing.
2. To ge these images I didn't capture the whole landscape. I only did a portion of it. I took some close ups and some not so close. I went to the Bosque and an animal refuge.
3. I didn't do too much editing. I just adjusted the brightness and the contrast. I thought they needed the editing because some pictures were too bright, some were too dark and some were too plain.
4. I didn't learn anything about this kind of photography.
5. I didn't find anything difficult. It was all simple and self explanatory.
6. I think they came out decent. Maybe they could of been better. I could of done this type of photography in the spring time when everything is blooming and becoming pretty. Maybe I could try this project later. We all criticize our work too harsh so maybe they look better in the eyes of someone else.
7. For my next project I was thinking about focusing on still life. I know Ive done this project before in photography two but I was thinking I could give it another shot. I could better my technique. I have my own little black box and I will place my items in there and combined my ideas.
Independent Project 8: Still Lifes

1. For this project I chose to do still lifes. I chose it because I thought I could increase my knowledge and technique. I actually like this project because it gives a sense of creativity. It doesn't matter what you put into the picture, it'll still count as a still life. I try and make my images match and make sense.
2. To get these images I put random images together and took the picture. I also had to set the lights up and also my miniature black box.
3. The only editing I chose to do is contrast, brightness, and a little saturation. I did that type of editing because those are the main ones that I always mess with. I added saturation because it needed more color, it looked dull. I added less brightness because I like darker images. I added contrast because I like contrast.
4. I learned to be creative with using only object that surround me.
5. I did not find anything difficult because all of it was plain and simple.
6. I actually like these images. Especially the two elephants. I think they came out really nice. All of the images have a blur where a blur should be at. The lighting on some came out great. Some of the angles that I used were good.
7. For my next project I was thinking about doing silhouette photography. This is defined as a view of an object or a scene consisting of the outline and a featureless interior, with the silhouetted object usually being black
Independent Project Nine: Silhouettes

1. For this project I chose to do silhouettes. Its when light creates shadow/outline of an object. I chose it because Ive never done something like this for a project. It seemed interesting.
2. For these images I had an object in front of the sun and took the picture. Ive learned that if the sun is low enough and the object is in front of the sun it'll create a silhouette.
3. For some images all I did was darken the image and increase the contrast. The last few needed because they didn't have too much of a silhouette. The rest didn't need any editing.
4. I learned that if the sun is low enough and the object is in front of the sun, it'll create a silhouette.
5. The only thing I found difficult is figuring out what to take photos of and how to angle them. These images weren't the greatest.
6. These images could of came out better because there wasn't much to look at and it wasn't too creative.
7. For my next project Im thinking about animals. I think Id take pictures of my animals and other peoples animals. Also I can go to the zoo or the animal shelter.
Independent Project Ten: Animals

1. This project I chose to take pictures of animal. I took pictures of my animals and other peoples animals.
2. To get these images I just used different angels and shot types. For example I got a close up on the last image.
3. I didn't really need to edit a lot of them because majority of them had good lighting and contrast and those are the main things I like to edit. Some of them I edited the brightness, contrast and saturation. They needed them because they were dull.
4. I learned that it takes a lot of patience when taking pictures of animals. Animals don't listen and only has a small attention span.
5. I didn't find anything difficult about these images.
6. I think they could of been better because they weren't too picturesque. They didn't wow me like some other images Ive taken before.
7. For my next project I think Im going to take pictures of flowers. Since its spring time the flowers are blooming and it will give me a chance to take pictures of flowers. I have flowers in my house, my backyard and front yard. I can also get pictures from the Gutierrez Hubbell House and possibly at the zoo or something.
Independent Project Eleven: Plants/Flowers

1. For this project I chose to take pictures of plants and flowers. I chose to because I love flowers and plants. They're really pretty to take pictures of. They're also easy to take pictures of.
2. I used mainly closeups to get these images. With closeups the audience can see the flowers/plants better.
3. I didn't do much editing to the photos. The only editing I did was increasing the saturation. The images were dull and when I messed with the saturation they weren't so dull anymore.
4. I didn't learn anything from this photography. It was all straight forward.
5. No there was not anything I found difficult. It was all easy and straight forward.
6. I actually like them. They came out good. Maybe they could of been better. Maybe different angles. Different shot types.
7. This is my last project for the year. Now I'm on to my final.
